Wood brings natural texture and several board layouts. A solid or overlapping design screens differently from shadowbox fencing, which changes with your viewing angle. Plan for weathering and ongoing care when comparing wood with vinyl.
Compare wood layouts and maintenance →Look at the fence from the patio, neighboring yard and street, rather than choosing from a style name alone. Board spacing, panel design, fence height and changes in ground level affect the view. A privacy fence can screen sightlines; it should not be treated as a sound barrier.
Discuss transitions near a driveway, a corner or a gate. Review boundary information and any applicable approval requirements before deciding where the fence belongs. Our service-area guide links to the communities we serve and their planning resources.
Ideal Fence uses heavy-wall galvanized steel posts driven 4 feet into the ground for wood, vinyl and chain-link fences. For the vinyl system shown in our installation guide, red brackets support the sleeve around the steel post.

Compare the screening of the actual design, its appearance, the complete installation scope and the care you want to handle. Wood changes as it weathers; vinyl offers a consistent panel appearance with cleaning and hardware checks. Ideal can help compare the options for your yard.
